Description
Schmincke Horadam Naturals Watercolor – Red Bolus, 15ml Tube
Red Bolus is a reddish-brown opaque earth tone with good lightfastness. The pigment comes from soil deposits in Upper Franconia (Bavaria). Bolus is the Greek word for soil or earth and refers to reddish-colored clay. Red Bolus is one of the oldest pigments, and drawing pencils from Red Bolus were sewn directly from clay-rich soils in the early Renaissance.
The natural pigments are sometimes slightly coarser in texture, which – unlike gouache – results in a rougher, usually slightly granular surface effect. The colors aren’t stiff but don’t flow as easily as traditional watercolor.
