– Why is it called Half Uncial? We would ask one Scipione Maffei (Italian, 1727) if we could. Perhaps is it because it looks like a shorter version of Uncial. Both fonts actually developed independently of each other from Roman cursive. If Uncial calligraphy feels to us today like “Irish LITE,” then Half Uncial is hardcore Irish. This is the real green thing!
