Description

What is Epoxide Oil?

Epoxide Oil is a unique and innovative oil that combines the benefits of linseed oil and dicyclopentadiene. This copolymer provides a fast-drying oil with excellent alkali resistance, making it an ideal choice for use in paints, varnishes, and oil painting mediums. Unlike traditional oils, Epoxide Oil does not contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), making it a safer and more eco-friendly option.

Benefits of Epoxide Oil

Epoxide Oil offers a range of benefits for artists and craftsmen. It improves film hardness, adhesion, and gloss, and can be used in place of natural and synthetic resinous mediums. As a 100% solids oil, it does not contain organic solvents, making it a safer and more environmentally friendly option. Additionally, Epoxide Oil enhances flow out and leveling, and holds out and hardens paint film.

Using Epoxide Oil

Epoxide Oil can be used in a variety of ways to enhance your painting and artistic projects. Add a small amount, up to 30%, to oil paint to speed drying, increase gloss, and improve flow out and leveling. You can also use Epoxide Oil as a substitute for alkyd painting mediums, without the need for organic solvents. Turpentine or mineral spirits can be used as solvents for oil painting mediums and for brush and studio clean up.

Product Information

Epoxide Oil is a natural product derived from the dried ripe seeds of the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum, Linaceae). It has a typical fatty acid profile of linseed oil, with a CAS No. of 68213-53-6. The acid value is 4, and the iodine value is 145-160. The viscosity is between Z3 and Z4, and the specific gravity is 0.96.

Health and Safety

Epoxide Oil is a safe and non-toxic product, but it is still important to handle it with care. Always wear protective gloves and eyewear when working with the oil, and avoid ingesting or inhaling it. Rags or paper towels contaminated with Epoxide Oil should be disposed of properly to prevent spontaneous combustion.
