Linen’s pH stability is far superior to cotton, whose vulnerability to external and internal acids compromises its permanence. All Artfix canvases are double sized for protection against oil paints, allowing uniform “breathing” which reduces paint-film stress. Up to 4 layers of primer are hand applied and sanded—which prevents peeling, flaking, or cracking. Fine portrait linen has a very tight weave and a beautiful even grain. It is excellent for portraits and detailed artworks. The lead style oil primer provides traditional lead ground qualities without its toxicity. Its unique absorbency allows oil paints to “bite” into the surface, increasing adhesion and depth of color. When glazed, colors glow from within.
