Description

Product

The 207 Special Clear Hardener is a blush-free epoxy hardener developed for coating and fiberglass cloth applications where an exceptionally clear, moisture-resistant, natural wood finish is desired. When blended with 105 Epoxy Resin, this hardener will not blush or turn cloudy in humid conditions, making it perfect for boat building and other woodworking projects.

Key Features

The 207 Special Clear Hardener offers a range of benefits, including its ease of use, reliability, and blush-free finish. It also has excellent fiberglass wet-out characteristics, strong physical properties, and is compatible with paints and varnishes. An ultraviolet inhibitor in the hardener helps provide a beautiful, long-lasting finish when used with quality UV filtering varnish.

Applications

The 207 Special Clear Hardener is suitable for a variety of applications, including boat building, woodworking, and casting table tops. It can be used to create a popular effect of pouring a thick coating or casting onto a table top, bar, or counter top, and can be used to cast objects such as memorabilia into the epoxy for decorative accents.

Preparation for Casting

Before pouring epoxy, prepare the surface by damming the perimeter with duct tape and applying a thin coat of epoxy to prevent bubbles from forming. Allow this to reach gelation before pouring the deeper layer of epoxy.

Pouring Epoxy

Warm the resin and hardener to about 80°F before dispensing to enhance the epoxy’s viscosity and flow characteristics. Mix the 105 Resin and 207 Special Clear Hardener thoroughly and allow it to stand for about one minute to deaerate the mixture. Pour close to the surface and limit the depth of the pour to ¼” to avoid uncontrolled exotherm.

Removing Bubbles and Finishing

Use a handheld propane torch or heat gun to remove air bubbles from the casting. Allow the final epoxy pour to cure for 24 hours before sanding the surface. Then, add a topcoat of UV protective varnish or a high-quality 2-part polyurethane to protect the finish from sunlight.
