Golden OPEN Thinner is made to thin OPEN multicolor acrylic paints without affecting drying time. It can also function as a thin-bodied retarder when used with heavy body or fluid acrylics. This medium contains no adhesives and should be used sparingly when mixed into your paints.

• When used with Golden OPEN Acrylic paints, this medium thins the consistency of the paint
• When used with Golden Heavy Body or Fluid Acrylics, the thinner acts as a paint retarder, slowing the drying process
• Thinner has no adhesive agents and should not be used alone

NOTE: Neither Golden Retarder nor OPEN thinner contain binding agents. To ensure adhesion, it is recommended that the addition of Retarder not exceed 15% (1:6), and OPEN Thinner should not exceed 25% (1:3) when mixed with colors or mediums. 

About GOLDEN OPEN Acrylics

OPEN Acrylics are a slow-drying paint with a slightly softer consistency than our Heavy Body paints. The extended working time of these colors broadens their range to include more traditional techniques once possible only with oil paint. Thick applications can dry extremely slowly, so we recommend that artists use OPEN Colors only thinly (< 1 mm). Drying time can also be accelerated by mixing OPEN with faster-drying acrylics, such as our Fluid and Heavy Body colors. The slow-drying properties of OPEN Acrylics also make it suitable for certain printmaking techniques.

Because OPEN Acrylics dry slowly, painters who cover their palettes or use sealed containers can keep the same colors for weeks, reducing paint waste and preserving color mixtures for future use.
